“New” Indians ?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Ok, so they are going to try again to drag out the Indian Chief. BFD.
Yeah, it looks good, So what.
Is anyone ever going to bring back the inline-four Indians (or other makes) from our rich American motorcycling past? Or a halfway decent single? (not the Buell Blast, which should have been a 650)?

I like V-twins as much as the next guy, don’t get me wrong!

But is every "new" American motorcylce (Victory, Confederate, re-deceased Excelsior) doomed to be a V-twin, just cuz Harley won the WW2 contract with one, 60 years ago? To me, if they don’t want to compete with Harley for the market (and image) shouldn’t they make a different type of bike? It just seems lazy and copycat-ish.
BTW, I really like Buells, Victorys and Confederates. But if their is another new company using an old name, planning on launching another American v-twin, it’s just a yawnfest to me. Especially when that brand had other interesting motor configurations.
Excuse me Kato, blame the "public"?
Which public is that? Surely not the (American) one that buys millions of non-v-twins from countless foriegn manufacturers.
With the exception of the Buell Blast, those who want to buy American are not given a choice other than V-twin.
It would be nice to have the option of buying a non-twin cruiser.
Who says a cruiser has to be a twin? Especially one from an American company who once made inline fours! Right now, the Triumph Rocket is the closest thing to a modern, non-twin, inline Indian.
Even BMW, known for its iconic "Boxer Twin," makes several other motor types, and they sell fine. To the public.

Why does it seem so few Harley owners…?

care to give the Japanese their proper due when it comes to motorcycles?

I ride a 08 1200cc Sportster HD Roadster. (883s are for sissies.) I’ve ridden numerous HD in my 30 years of riding experience and a good few Japanese bikes. I ride my Sporty because of it’s light weight (in comparison to other Harleys, I mean.) exhaust note, and general overall feel of the bike. I didn’t buy this damn thing so that I now have thousands of new ‘friends’ at the local watering hole. (More and more of them are weekend warrior dentists, doctors and wussy boy software designers with brand shiny new HD logo leathers that make them look like a walking, talking billboard.) I didn’t buy this thing because it has ‘a spirit’ or ‘a soul’ (It doesn’t. It’s a ****ing MACHINE) that just so happens to have been around for 105+ years. Bread has been around longer. That doesn’t mean that I think it has ‘a soul’

That said I can recognize what the Japanese have done for motorcycles in general. Why can’t you, Mr. Hardcore Harley?

Those Japanese practically own MotoGP and AMA with all of the big 4 bikes in there. They do great in dragging, too. So what’s all this ‘imitation’ garbage? Remember in the 70s and 80s when Harley was PURE TRASH? I do. My old Fat Boy broke down TWO WEEKS after I bought it! Who do you think took advantage of that at put out similar looking motorcycles that, you know, actually ran for more than 5,000 miles without guzzling or leaking oil? The Japanese. While the government was bailing Harley out and screwing over the Japanese with taxes for the thank you.

While we’re at it. Why do I never hear the loud mouths at the watering holes calling a Boss Hoss an ‘imitation’ or Indian or Victory bikes ‘imitations’? But ALL of the Japanese cruisers are…even the ones that look nothing like a Harley. Well, I got new for you pinheads. Us Americans have ‘imitated’ plenty of things in the span of our years on this continent. Get off your damn high horse!

Harley is a great bike these days. Twice as reliable as they’ve ever been! Japanese bikes are pretty damn rock solid themselves, and those crotch rockets are amazing machines. You can’t even tell me you wouldn’t have fun busting 200mph in Bonneville Flats on an unlocked Busa or ZX-14, Mr. Hardcore Harley. I had fun with it! There’s more to riding than 60mph, loud pipes and stopping at a new pub every 5-10 miles and stand around your chromed out bikes that you have PERFORMANCE parts on but then tell the sport bike riders that you don’t ride for speed. (Hello double standard!)
My 883s are for sissies comment is entirely false, and meant as a jab towards someone who has the same first name (Tony) as me. I just happen to own a 1200cc. I figured that was pretty **ckin’ obvious give my BLATANT copy of his user name…but I guess some of you just can’t wrap your heads around that.

I rear ended a motrocycle?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Hi-I was at a stop light looking at a map, because I was in a suburb I wasn’t familiar with. There was a motorcycle in front of me-and my right footed kind of lifted slowly off the brake and the car moved at the the slowest speed, nothing fast at all. I hit his tire and taillight which is a one piece taillight. Nothing was wrong with him, it was like a crunch sound that happened. The brake lights work, it’s a plastic part, so it looked like he just pushed it back in, but he said there could be internal damage, like a front axle. I know there can be hidden damage, but if you can imagine slightly lifting your foot off the gas pedal, not completely, just a little, that’s the speed he got hit at. Potholes can do worse damage to your car.I’m just worried, because this guy called me every name in the book, and he looks like he’s going to sue me for everything I have and will have in the future. If you know about bikes, please respond. He has a Victory Vegas bike.
I know I am at fault—-that’s why I am worried this guy is going to sue the clothes off my back. He wanted to throw me into traffic, that’s how pissed he was at me. The brake lights work, he check it, like I said, it’s one piece, so the left blinkers were working, as well as the right. I got a scuff mark on my bumper, which i wiped off. I do have insurance, but here in the US people sue you for everything.

What’s the name of this movie?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

It was filmed in 1980. The story line took place during the modern 1980’s. It’s about this man trying to make the champion of being a strenght man with brown short hair in his 30’s or 40’s. to win his victory. He weight lifts and jogs around town. He fix his motocycle with his buddy. He always runs into this older grey beard corrupted motorcycle leader and his gang. The leader of the motor cycle cult alwaysalways threatens to pick a fight with him. One day the brown short haired man practices his fighting techniques and jogs around the sandy hills outskirts of town, he runs into this black haired mustache man with curly black hair that wore a blue gymnasium outfit to join him. During when they were running together, the mustache guy with the blue out fit slides of of a sandy cliff. The brown short haired man helps him up. they continue to run together. Later on in the movie, them 2 men bet on a fight for money in town. The brown short hair man wore a red gymnasuim outfit and the mustache man wore the blue out fit I mentioned befreo. They get into a fist to fist long fierce duel while the whole town gathers including the corrupted grey beard motorcycle gang to see the fight. They fought inside and outside of places. at the very end of the fight the red outfit man beat the blue outfit man with the mustache. The end of the fight was very gorey with both both covered in dirt, and blood. The red outfit man won the money. Then the grey beard motorcycle leader and his cult made an agreement on to respect each other and his dignity. The leader of the gang said, "I am proud of you, that was one HELL of a fight, I mean one HELLof a fight you put out in town in front of us.They walked off both there ways and the credits rolled of the film!

WHICH ONE WOULD YOU BUY?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I’m defiantly buying a motorcycle, but I’m stuck between a 2009 Yamaha Raider S or 2009 Victory Jackpot. I’ve chosen these two because of the power and appearance of both I already owned a 2004 Harley Davidson Night Train and loved it, but I think harleys are also over rated after owning one, but I’m not saying I wouldn’t own another one! Which one do yall think I should buy?

Imported motorcycles the obvious choices?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Not to bash Harley Davidson or anyone else, but since Harley Davidson and Victory basically only make heavy cruisers and Buell is not as popular of a sportbike as the much better imported makes, should we as American consumers even argue that many of the imported motorcycles ARE the better and in some cases, the ONLY choice?

First, as far as off road, standard and multi-purpose motorcycles. All of our choices are imported.

American companies don’t make dirtbikes or 250cc beginner bikes or the large range of bikes not offered by foreign makers

Japan and Europe rule the sportbike market, so the obvious choices for sportbike riders is not an American company(Buell).

Not to say that a Harley or a Victory could be a very nice cruiser for many riders, there are alot of more affordable and excellent metric cruisers which are perfect for many other riders.

All other American motorcycle makers are custom built and special projects which are not affordable to most people.

You can say "buy American" but America isn’t offering what every American rider out there wants and that’s not the fault of the rider.

Standard/naked vs Cruiser?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Gonna buy my first bike, I was thinking one of those low cruisers that don’t look like the Indian Chieftain type of things with a giant windshield and a huge leather bag with frills, something that resembles a Yamaha Warrior Base : http://www.motorcycle.com/specs/yamaha/cruiser/2009/warrior/base.html

this: http://www.motorcycle.com/specs/suzuki/cruiser/2009/boulevard/m50.html

or : http://www.motorcycle.com/specs/victory/cruiser/2009/vegas-reg/8-ball.html

but then I looked at some of the standard/naked ones and I cant decide now, I’m mostly buying for the look of it, but id like to be sure which ones offer better comfort for long distance riding and if someone can HIGHLIGHT the main differences between Standard/Naked and Cruisers etc.

I like the following standards

http://www.motorcycle.com/specs/ducati/standard/2009/monster/696.html

PS I’m 19 and I live in the big city so I’d like something that fits both in the city and something I can ride on the highway for a few hundred miles or so.

Thanks
OH and I’m 6′3 200 lbs.

Gift ideas or places to go for boyfriend’s birthday?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

My boyfriend will be 23 on March 31 and I am getting him a tattoo for his birthday but i want to get him a little something else (because he is spoiled). I was wondering if there are any cool places to visit (i live in the Boston, MA area) or if anyone has any cool gift ideas for this gun and motorcycle lover. He has a Victory 8 Ball (motorcycle) has several guns and goes shooting all the time. He is your typical country boy who loves big wheels, big lifts, cars, trucks, bikes, guns..etc. He loves his toys! :)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for the suggestion Afzal! Really helpful… if he really was a recneck! because he likes cars and bikes? hahaha.

For anyone else who wants to give me ridiculous suggestions, please dont bother. Thanks :)

When will new Harley Davidson Motorcycles go on sale?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I can’t understand every other brand of motorcycles are on sale with big cuts in prices, but HD never cut their prices.
Just who do they think they are?
Does HD think they are better than everybody else?

even BMW and Victory bikes cut their prices
both are better bikes
