why did my triumph spitfire just die?
my 1970 spitfire was running perfect when i got it, it ran for like 2 or 3 hours just fine, then it just died. i replaced the battery today cause the auto place said my old one was shot, after i did that it ran perfect for about 15 min. then died again. i cant figure out why it died and not sure what happened, has anyone else had this problem or does anyone else have any idea on what to look for to fix? thank you.

Same reason that the English drink warm beer. You have Lucas ignition and they have Lucas refrigerators.
Lucas tried to even manufacture vacuum cleaners at one time but that product failed. Apparently it was the only product they made that didn’t SUCK.
All I can offer at this time is that you check your generator and your regulator. And good luck.
Lucas, the prince of darkness….
Check your 3 position switch: Is it set to Dim, Flicker, or Off.
i would guess your alternator is done. pretty easy fix.
James;
Get a complete shop manual and a complete wiring manual – you’ll need it. A Spitfire is not like a modern car – sometimes it will run, sometimes it won’t. You will get really good at tracing circuits, and if you want a running car (usually anyways) and not too concerned about OEM, you will gradually replace all of the Lucas components with Bosch equivalents, while you rewire the whole car.
And there are SU carbs……….
Have fun with your project car.
